You can boil a lot of Regen Sonora’s work down to fighting for the Right To Remain. Maybe you’ve lived in Superior for a year, maybe your family has lived here for over 100 years…either way, you have a right to remain here. That means Superior has to be a livable place, and a place is not livable if you can’t afford to live there. Not only that, according to our Community Assessment, finances are a major cause of household stress.

The only thing we’ve seen to effectively combat against gentrification and displacement is the successful implementation of a Community Land Trust.

A community land trust is a community lead non-profit that owns and holds land for the purpose of making it accessible to community members. When community land trusts are involved in housing, they own the land and sell the homes. This takes the land out of the speculative market which drives up prices, thus making home ownership more accessible.

In Oct 2025, Regenerating Sonora purchased a handful of lots down the street from Leo’s. We’re working on demonstrating a process of community led design that others can replicate in their own way. Click below to learn more about this project.

Part of our strategic approach is to incubate projects to then spin them off into their own entity, which is exactly the plan here. Regen buys the land, we get the development going, then when the time is right, we transition ownership of the land and any relevant assets to the new entity formed “Pinal-Gila Community Land Trust” (PGCLT)

The PGCLT will become an instrument for Pinal-Gila resilience hub network members who want to do similar projects in their communities. In this way, we’ll increase the value of being part of the network and Regen Sonora will help support communities throughout our region while reducing the risk of getting spread too thin.
