Free community meals was inspired by locals who suggested we offer a soup kitchen at Leo’s. The way we do things is by starting with a few safe to fail experiments as a way to learn if an idea is viable or not.

The feedback we heard from our community was loud and clear. Keep doing it!!!

Now we offer free breakfast every Monday from 9-11am. Two community members battle it out every first Monday to see who can win over the majority of attendees with their dish. It’s fun!

And we “stack functions” as they say in permaculture by providing free dinner service every Wednesday from 6-8pm, the day and time we’re already open and holding events.

Since January 2025 free breakfast and dinner services have gone on every single week without fail. The consistency has resulted in higher attendance from our most vulnerable populations due to word of mouth. These meal services are a perfect opportunity for our Community Health Workers to meet new clients and do followup work with those they’re already working with. As much as possible, we use food grown from our Community Garden and from the Superior Eat Local Network.
